2012’s Prometheus was a bit of a disappointment for me, and although this article is not going to be a review of the film, I will refer to scenes from it throughout this post.
When Ridley Scott announced that he would write and direct a follow-up to Prometheus, he stated that the sequel would not introduce the xenomorphs from the Alien movie franchise. This seemed to stand in direct contradiction to the ending scene of Prometheus, where a xenomorph is shown
In a recent interview, Scott talked about adding new creatures into the mix and scrapping the xenomorphs. On the subject of a Prometheus sequel and its potential antagonists, Scott said “it’s fresh and getting away from gods (engineers) and dragons (xenomorphs) and shit. If I see one more dragon, I’m going to shoot myself. Stop the dragons.”
Scott goes on to describe his original Alien as “the definitive dragon.” He adds “the alien’s real, which is why it’s probably one of the scariest monsters in film history. So with Prometheus 2, what I’m trying to do is reintroduce a fresher form of alien in the third act.”
The Prometheus “baby” alien was, he concedes, “awfully close to the alien” that tormented Sigourney Weaver, but he promises that his next one will be quite different. Read more here.
