New Friday The 13th Delayed, Again? This is a Good Thing!

by Richard Spalding of www.fansided.com

Bad news, fans of the Friday the 13th series: the newest installment in the franchise has seen its release date pushed back, again.

Which is good news for people who have no interest in seeing this franchise rebooted, again!  Keep pushing ‘er back, all the way to the end of days.

First, the details: rather than shooting for a November 13 release this year, Paramount Pictures has pushed the 13th film all the way back to May 13, 2016.  This movie has been a hot mess since day one, with a different story surfacing every week about the direction this film will head.  First, it was rumored to not even feature Jason Voorhees.  Wait, no – he IS the killer!  Then, it was going to be shot in the found-footage style – scrap that!  We think.

And there still isn’t a script for this project, for Voorhees’ sakes!

Ugh.

While some fans may be gnashing their teeth over the never-ending stream of disappointing news surrounding this flick, I think this latest set back is a good thing, for one of two reasons, depending on what side of the spectrum you reside:

1. For those who cannot wait to see another entry in the franchise, this delay might frustrate you, but consider the alternative: a terrible script, a bunch of half-baked ideas (sort of like most of the campers at Camp Crystal Lake!), and a movie so bad that it does what none of the other entries in the franchise managed to do – put the final nail in Jason Voorhees’ coffin, once and for all.

It’s not like Jason’s character will suddenly become less popular if this film is released in 2016, instead of 2015, so fans should be glad to see that Paramount Pictures is not trying to rush a product in order to simply earn some quick bucks based solely off of brand recognition.  Lord knows there are enough stinkers in the “Friday the 13th” canon – why add one more?

2. For those who would rather spend a night at Camp Crystal Lake, with Jason, rather than see the franchise rebooted, every delay brings us one day closer to someone finally saying, “Screw this: Jason is dead.”  As much as I love horror films, there is no genre that beats a dead horse as gleefully as the horror industry does.  Some times, a reboot can prove to be inspired, such as Zac Snyder’s “Dawn of the Dead,” which is freaking brilliant.  Usually, though, remakes/reboots – whatever! – are at best okay, and at worst, steaming piles of dog **** that desecrate the houses of the holy.

Besides, we already got a series reboot back in 2009. That “Friday the 13th” wasn’t terrible, so everyone who holds Jason Voorhees near and dear in their hearts should let the series end on a good note.

Like that will happen!

We’ll keep our eyes and ear open for any more news on this flick, and be sure to let us know what you think about this latest setback in Jason’s saga below!

Alex Garland Says 28 Months Later is Being Discussed

28 Months Later could be in the works

Alex Garland says there’s a possibility we’ll be getting a third movie in the 28 Days Later/28 Weeks Later series, with serious talks already under-way.

Directed by Danny Boyle and starring Cillian Murphy, the first film – which revolved around a deadly disease wiping out much of the human race – was a huge horror hit, while the sequel was equally well-received, leading to speculation about a third.

So when screenwriter Garland stopped by IGN’s London office to promote directorial debut Ex Machina we asked him if there has been any progress.

“We’ve just started talking about it seriously” he explained. “We’ve got an idea. Danny [Boyle] and [producer] Andrew [Macdonald] and I have been having quite serious conversations about it so it is a possibility. It’s complicated. There’s a whole bunch of reasons why it’s complicated, which are boring so I won’t go into, but there’s a possibility.”

As with 28 Weeks Later, Garland says he’ll more likely executive produce than write the script, and as for a title, it will somewhat predictably involve months…

“It’s more likely to be 28 Months than 28 Years” he revealed. “28 Years gives you one more place to go. 28 Decades is probably taking the piss.”

Ex Machina hits UK screens on January 21, while you can check out the full hour-long Alex Garland interview when the IGN UK podcast goes live this Friday.

‘Prometheus 2′ Straying Away From the Xenomorphs

by Matt Timmy Creamer of www.moviepilot.com

2012’s Prometheus was a bit of a disappointment for me, and although this article is not going to be a review of the film, I will refer to scenes from it throughout this post.

When Ridley Scott announced that he would write and direct a follow-up to Prometheus, he stated that the sequel would not introduce the xenomorphs from the Alien movie franchise. This seemed to stand in direct contradiction to the ending scene of Prometheus, where a xenomorph is shown

In a recent interview, Scott talked about adding new creatures into the mix and scrapping the xenomorphs. On the subject of a Prometheus sequel and its potential antagonists, Scott said “it’s fresh and getting away from gods (engineers) and dragons (xenomorphs) and shit. If I see one more dragon, I’m going to shoot myself. Stop the dragons.”

Scott goes on to describe his original Alien as “the definitive dragon.” He adds “the alien’s real, which is why it’s probably one of the scariest monsters in film history. So with Prometheus 2, what I’m trying to do is reintroduce a fresher form of alien in the third act.”

The Prometheus “baby” alien was, he concedes, “awfully close to the alien” that tormented Sigourney Weaver, but he promises that his next one will be quite different. Read more here.
