Terminator 5 Release Dates Moves Up to Fourth of July 2015

by David Konow of www.tgdaily.com

It may not be the smartest idea in Hollywood, but at least it’s a little smarter than Batman Vs Superman. Yes, it looks like another Terminator movie is indeed moving forward, and now it’s moving up to one of the biggest blockbuster periods of the year: Fourth of July weekend.

As Giant Freakin Robot tells us, Paramount, who currently own the Terminator rights, are moving the release date up from June 26, 2015, to July 1. This means it will go head to head with the long awaited sequel to Independence Day, which is scheduled for July 3.

Like many blockbusters competing for a big release date, this will probably turn into a big game of chicken to see who will back out first. It’s still a ways away, but delays could happen, especially with special FX and budget issues. It would be suicidal to try and release both movies on practically the same date, and it will be interesting to see who’ll back out first. (Or if they both stay on their release dates, causing an all out box office war.)

We’ve made it pretty clear here on TGD that we’re not nuts about the prospect of another Terminator movie. Without James Cameron helming, and without a younger Arnold, it’s just not going to have the impact the first two masterpieces had. We’re still open to be proven wrong, and if the tumors are true that the next Terminator could be a prequel set in the 40’s or 50’s are true, it could certainly be different than the usual sci-fi / action route the movie could take. Stay tuned…

Ron Howard Gives Updates On The Dark Tower Film

by Jill Pantozzi of www.themarysue.com

Ever wonder what happened to the adaptation of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower? Ron Howard has a few answers for you.

The last time we did a story on The Dark Tower film was back in August of 2012. That’s when Warner Bros. decided to pass on the project after Universal already had. It was said Media Rights Capital (Elysium) was then trying to pick up The Dark Tower from Imagine Entertainment.

Empire Online has an exclusive discussion with the director from a recent podcast episode. Here’s what he said:
The Dark Tower is something that we’re still working on. We’ve all taken a vow of silence about the progress, the headway, what we think our timetable is, because I don’t think I realised how much media interest there was in the title and how much excitement there was.

“It’s a fascinating, powerful possibility and even Stephen King acknowledges it’s a tricky adaptation, but to be honest, from a financing side, it’s not a straightforward, four-quadrant, sunny superhero story – it’s dark, it’s horror. That edge is what appeals to me, the complexities of those characters is what appeals to all of us. And I think Stephen King really respects that, with [regular screenwriting collaborator] Akiva Goldsman and myself, that that’s what we love about it, and that’s what we want to try to get to the screen.

“So my answer is: it got delayed, it’s never gone away. We’re working on it, and Stephen is very patient with us, and Akiva’s just gone off and directed a movie [an adaptation of Mark Helprin’s novel, Winter’s Tale, starring Colin Farrell, Russell Crowe, Jessica Brown Findlay, Jennifer Connelly and Will Smith], I’m continuing to work, but the Dark Tower dreams – fever dreams, rather – are still there, but we’re not going to give it a timetable.”
So basically, it’s still happening, they just aren’t putting pressure on it like so many other Hollywood projects. I think that’s probably wise.

Mark Hamill uses force of the gym to shape up for Star Wars: Episode VII

Mark Hamill is getting in shape to return to his role as Jedi knight Luke Skywalker in the forthcoming Star Wars: Episode VII, according to his friend Robert Englund.

The Nightmare on Elm Street actor, who is credited with inspiring Hamill to try out for the role in 1977's Star Wars, said the new Skywalker would be fighting fit when director JJ Abrams begins shooting early next year in London.

"They've got Mark in the gym," said Englund, who played horror icon Freddie Krueger in multiple Nightmare on Elm Street films. "Because Mark's coming back as Luke Skywalker. They've got him doing his sit-ups."

Speaking at the Nashville Comic Expo, in comments first reported by ComicBook.com, Englund recalled his own small part in bringing his then housemate to the attention of Star Wars creator George Lucas. "I got to read for Han Solo in Star Wars," he explained. "Well, I didn't get the part because I was too young. But while I was there, I read the descriptions of the other characters.

"Mark was on my couch with a Heineken in one hand and a slab of cold pizza in the other. So, I said, 'Mark, I think you might be right for this Luke Skywalker'. He got on the phone and the rest was history."

The news that Hamill, 61, will be back in shape for the role which made his name may come as some relief to fans of the series, who have been vocal over their concerns that the actor is less battle-ready than he once was. There have been tabloid rumours that Carrie Fisher, 56, who is set to return as Princess Leia, has also been asked to get into shape. Harrison Ford, who played Han Solo, is the third member of the iconic trio from the original trilogy (episodes IV-VI in George Lucas's extended saga) expected to return in Episode VII, which is set to hit cinemas in 2015.

Millennium Falcon and Cantina ‘to return’ in Star Wars Episode 7

by Christopher Hooton of www.metro.co.uk

Han Solo’s Millennium Falcon will reportedly feature in Star Wars Episode 7, along with the infamous Mos Eisley Cantina.

A set for the iconic ship, which lent its firepower to the Rebel Alliance’s attack on the Death Star in the original Star Wars trilogy, is believed to have already been constructed at the project’s Pinewood Studios film location.

The Latino Review claims it is ready for filming in early 2014, while Talkbacker quotes a source as saying that a power plant and cantina will feature too.

‘… yes the falcon will make a big appearance, 1.1 scale size cross-section is being constructed over at Pinewood, along with a power plant set and the famous cantina,’ the source allegedly said in an email.

The cantina was the setting for one of Star Wars’ best-loved scenes, in which Obi-Wan Kenobi slices off the arm of a belligerent mercenary with a lightsabre as an alien jazz band play in the background.

Last week, Disney confirmed a series of spin-off movies that will focus on the origins of some of the Star Wars universe’s most popular characters.

Star Wars: Episode VII will hit cinemas in 2015, with Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher expected to reprise their roles.
